About Christopher Margolin

Chris Margolin was born and raised in New York. In 1993, while attending Pace University, he founded a publishing company producing college shopper publications and later an arts and entertainment monthly, In Magazine. After college, expansion of that venture took him to Boston and then back to New York, where his publishing firm was acquired by a larger organization.

In 1998, Chris entered the financial services industry as an advisor at PaineWebber. He enjoyed a successful career—due in no small part to working with an executive coach. Intrigued by his first taste of formal coaching, Chris started coaching new financial advisors himself and discovered that he had a passion and unique ability for the development of others. He became a frequent speaker on business strategy, client acquisition, and self-motivation. In 2005, after reaching and maintaining club-level at UBS Financial Services, Chris left to pursue executive coaching full time.

Since then Chris has worked with hundreds of executives in various positions in Financial Services and Professional Services. His coaching experience includes an internal coaching role at UBS in 2008 — where he led a team of 7 coaches and coached dozens of the firm’s top performers, including Financial Advisors, Complex Directors, Branch Managers, and Product Specialists.

Chris departed UBS and returned to the development of his firm, Christopher Margolin and Associates in the summer of 2009.

Chris lives in Florida with his wife Jessica and their son Jackson. Chris is an accomplished woodworker, photographer, a cyclist, and a guitarist. He is a former student of The International Coaching Academy.

I have had the distinct pleasure of working with, being coached, guided, motivated, prodded, poked and challenged by Chris for the past three years. Referring to Chris as a “coach” is a misnomer. He has become a trusted business and personal advisor – an individual who I frequently turn to for guidance in a multitude of areas in which I have sought to enhance my effectiveness. His commitment to me has been unwavering throughout our time together and he has evidenced superior coaching skills along numerous dimensions, creatively finding ways to help me elevate my game. Moreover, and perhaps most importantly, the results have been spectacular.
I have had numerous coaches during my career and participated extensively in personal development programs and Chris has risen to the very top. I have referred him to colleagues who feel similarly about Chris and I recommend him unconditionally.

Great Results From Great Questions

Success in any business, especially financial services, is about building and sustaining meaningful relationships. The access point to these kinds of relationships comes when you ask the right questions and then listen to the answers.

Just Ask It is the result of expertise gained from years of coaching financial advisors, managers, and leaders. In it, you will find the tools necessary to propel both your personal and professional relationships. It describes the most valuable techniques used to strengthen your ability to communicate with anyone.

This book was an eye-opener to me… makes me wonder how I supposedly “made it” in this business without using these techniques! Chris’ concise probing questions have been invaluable to me in further developing my practice, and the higher the net worth of the prospective client, the more essential this material is. A “must-read” for anyone looking to land large relationships.

– Senior Vice President – Investment Officer, National Wirehouse

Thanks for the book, Just Ask It. As one of your coaching clients, I was glad to see you included the section on introductory meetings. It brought to mind one of your questions that led to a big win for my practice; “What needs to happen for you to move your accounts?” That question led to 2 new households, and $7mm in new assets within two months of the time I asked it. No close, no hard sale, no figuring out what I needed to do. Just ask the question, and let the answers flow.
